Sahar from Tel Aviv Israel sent me the following interesting question. Are there any similarities between Gaelic and Hebrew? There are definitely parallels in regard to the fact that once Hebrew was also a declining language, however unlike Gaelic, it was able to make a full recovery through the establishment of the state of Israel. Israeli language experts have developed several fast track learning systems to help new immigrants to Israel quickly learn Hebrew. These Israeli fast track learning systems have recently been used in various Gaelic and Welsh learning schools, and there has been much success with their teaching methods. In various Gaelic revival circles, you will often hear talk about Hebrew, because it is seen as living proof that an ancient and declining language can make a full recovery as the first official language of a state. Hebrew today is spoken by the overwhelming majority of the whole Israeli population.
