Did you know that the Galway based National University of Ireland, requires all of it's faculty to be completely competent in Irish Gaelic? This mandatory requirement was passed into law in 1929 by the University College Galway Act. This requirement is actually quite common throughout the Republic of Ireland, not just in institutions of higher learning, but in all government positions as well. The only time any exemptions to this rule can be made, are when the person being considered was born outside of the Republic of Ireland, people who were born in Ireland but received their primary education abroad, or if a person has been formally diagnosed with dyslexia.
