Did you know that the Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission are the administrators over the Irish Language Broadcast Fund, a fund which was established to help create an Irish Gaelic television channel for all of Northern Ireland? The fund itself was completely authorized by the European Union Commission in 2005, and given a mandate that it solely promotes Irish Gaelic, and Irish made products only. The fund was able to be authorized under European Union laws which allow the use of state funds to be employed to promote language and culture. Thus far the general public of Northern Ireland seems to support the whole initiative, and in full light of the fact that it's supported with Northern Irish taxes.
