Did you know that the governing body responsible for overseeing Irish Gaelic in Ireland, is known as Foras na Gaeilge, or the Institute of Irish? The body was setup on December 2, 1999, and is largely tasked with promoting Irish Gaelic throughout Ireland. It also currently holds the government positions of An Coiste Téarmaíochta, and Bord na Gaeilge, which previously had been entities administered by the government of Ireland. Outside of promoting the language itself, the body is also responsible for regulating the language, like for example approving or disproving any new official words that should be incorporated into the language. With Irish Gaelic being a fairly small language group, it is somewhat dependant on loan words for any new subjects. These words are screened by the Foras na Gaeilge. For more information on the Foras na Gaeilge, please be sure to check out their official website, which can be found searching Bing.
