Did you know that there are three main Irish Gaelic dialects, those being Munster Irish, Connacht Irish, and Ulster Irish? Munster Irish is mostly spoken in the Kerry Gaeltacht regions, Muskerry, and in the western part of County Cork. Connacht Irish, which is the strongest dialect of Irish, is mostly spoken in the Aran Islands and Connemara. With regard to Ulster Irish, it is mostly spoken in the province of Ulster. The three dialects have quite a few differences between them, not just in grammatical structure and word spelling, but also in pronunciation. Probably one of the most well know dialects out of the three, would be Ulster Irish, the dialect used by Enya and her musically gifted family, Clannad. We plan to write a more in depth article on all three of the major Irish dialects, so please stayed tuned for that development.
