Irish Gaelic Fact
Are you aware that the Munster Irish dialect was extremely important in helping to launch the Irish Gaelic revival of the early twentieth century? The renown and highly acclaimed author Peadar Ua Laoghaire wrote his novel Séadna in Munster Irish, saying that he wanted to show the new generation of Irish people what he considered to be good Irish Gaelic. Another famous literary work in Munster Irish, was the Peig Sayers autobiography. Despite the fact that she was illiterate, her autobiography became a primary source of Irish Gaelic text during that time period. There have also been many other highly influential literary works that were published in Munster Irish, such as the autobiographies An tOileánach by Tomás Ó Criomhthain, and of course Fiche Blian ag Fás by Muiris Ó Súilleabháin. We hope that you learned something new with these fun Irish Gaelic facts. We hope you'll continue to explore other facts here in our site.
