Did you know that the Christian Bible has been printed in Irish Gaelic since the beginning of the 17th century? The four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, have even been translated numerous times, with slight variances and interpretations offered by each translation. In 1964, huge efforts were put into making one official Irish Gaelic Bible translation available, and so it was retranslated at Maynooth, and the translation was strictly made for Roman Catholics. This monumental task was conducted under the supervision of Professor Pádraig Ó Fiannachta, and expert on both theology and the Gaelic language. The finished copy of this translation became available in 1981, nearly two decades after the project was originally started. Aside from the Bible itself, The Church of Ireland's Book of Common Prayer is also available in both Irish Gaelic and English. Thanks for reading through this fun Irish Gaelic fact, I hope you enjoyed it.
