Did you know that at the end of the 19th century, a group called the Gaelic Revival Movement started to encourage Ireland to reclaim it's hold on it's native tongue of Irish Gaelic? At this early stage in the Gaelic revival project, a lot of emphasis was placed on reverting all Irish folk tradition back to using Irish Gaelic, instead of English. The efforts were quite successful, in that they not only sparked an Irish cultural interest around the country, but they also helped spark an interest to see Irish Gaelic restored to literature and journalism. The Irish government would soon get involved in these efforts, and the foundation would be laid for what is today's Irish Gaelic revival in Ireland. Without these efforts by many interested parties, some language experts believe that Irish Gaelic would only be spoken by a tiny amount of people in the country, as opposed to it being spoken by roughly 600,000 Irish people as it is today.
