Manx Gaelic Fact
Did you know that the capital of the Isle of Man is Douglas, which in Manx Gaelic is pronounced Doolish? According to the most recent census, the city is home to almost 27,000 inhabitants. It sits right at the mouth of the Douglas River, which also happens to be a bay about two miles wide. This river helps to form the city's harbor, which is it's main commercial port. With regard to the government seat of the island itself, Douglas is home to the High Courts of the Isle of Man. The city is also a major hub for the island's commerce, and it hosts numerous businesses related to shipping, finance, transport, entertainment, and of course shopping. The island is also home to many great restaurants and pubs, many of which offer local seafood served in the island's age old style. For more information on the city of Douglas, please be sure and check out the official government city portal, which hosts all of the info that you would need to know.
