Did you know that the commonly used Manx Gaelic greetings moghrey mie and fastyr mie, mean good morning and good afternoon? What might seem strange about this, is that the Manx language does not have a word for evening, it simply refers to it as afternoon. So obviously there is no specific good evening type of expression as is commonly found in not only English, but many other languages around the world. It is not known exactly why this is, however some people have suggested that it might be due to the fact that the island's inhabitants are early to bed, and early to rise. I doubt this is completely true, but the island does have a large population of fishermen, and they certainly do wake up early and go to sleep early.
