Old Irish Lettering Tattoo
When people refer to any type of Irish Gaelic lettering, they are usually referring to Old Irish of the Ogham script, also known as the Celtic Tree Alphabet. This Ogham script originated in ancient Ireland, and is thought to be the first script used when spoken Irish finally developed a written form. The lettering itself is very runic looking, with many long and narrow vertical, horizontal, and perpendicular lines crossing into each other. There are basically two forms of this lettering which appear in contemporary tattoos, the first and most common being the authentic script used to spell out actual Irish Gaelic words. The second format in which this lettering is used, is to spell English words, where the lettering symbols themselves are drawn to look like the original script, yet actually form letters from the English alphabet. There are many photos of these tattoos available across the internet, simply search in Google Images to find them.
